This course offers an in-depth exploration of the contents of the Old Testament, including its various stories, genres, characters, and themes.
Along the way, you will learn more about the social, cultural, and historical contexts of ancient Israel as well as key theological concepts such as covenant, wisdom, holiness, sabbath, justice, lament, purity, and shalom.
Throughout, you will have opportunities to reflect on the relevance of the Old Testament for your faith formation and the ministries of the church today.
This course will be taught in three parts, with part 1 focusing on Genesis - Judges, part 2 focusing on the prophets and the historical books, and part 3 focusing on the psalms and wisdom literature.
This course is made possible by The Bill Mallard Lay Theology Institute Endowment, honoring the memory of distinguished and beloved long-time Candler professor of church history, Bill Mallard.
