The Economics of Shalom

Sundays, from 10:30 AM ET - 11:30 AM ET from June 1 - June 29, 2025, in partnership with First Presbyterian Church, Knoxville

Description

Taught by faculty from Emory’s Candler School of Theology, this 5-session course explores biblical views on poverty and economics. Questions addressed include: How is poverty defined in the Bible and what is its opposite? What are the main causes of poverty in the ancient world and does the Bible see poverty as inevitable or solvable? What role did economic concerns play in the ministry of the prophets and in the teaching of Jesus? In taking up these and related questions, emphasis will be placed on how biblical responses to poverty can help the church more fully pursue God's shalom today.
