Asian and Asian American Feminist Biblical Studies

Description
This course introduces the development and issues in Asian and Asian American feminist biblical studies from a transnational perspective. It will focus on the Torah, Prophets, the Writings, the Gospels, the Epistles, and the Book of Revelation.
The course will identify commonalities and differences between Asian and Asian American feminist approaches in order to build better understanding and solidarity.
Participants will gain new insights in the study of the Bible and ministry in Asian and Asian American churches and communities. Each session will include a speaker from Asia and another from the United States.

Instructor
Maggie Low is a lecturer in Hebrew Bible at Trinity Theological College, Singapore. Her PhD is from Union-Presbyterian School of Christian Education, USA. She is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore, and her interests are in feminist studies and homiletics. Her latest work, “Reading Isiash in Asia,” is in The Oxford Handbook of Isaiah (read more).
Kwok Pui Lan is Dean’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. She has authored and edited numerous books on Asian and Asian American feminist theology, biblical interpretation, and postcolonial criticism. Her publications include The Anglican Tradition from a Postcolonial Perspective; Political Politics and Theology; and Discovering the Bible in the Non-Biblical World (read more).
